- Choose the right topic (be sure it's specific).
- Find your voice.
- Invite a conversation.
- Package what you write (ten Tips, five Rules, seven Ways).
- Always, always link.
- Write for Web readers
- Write for Google searchers.
- Publish consistently.
- Take risks.
- Have fun.
While it's ideal to post a new entry several times a week, sometimes it's just not possible. Don't, I repeat, don't let your latest month-old post sit there whithout an explanation.
When you know you're going to take a break, post a short explanation for your hiatus and tel readers when to expect you back.
Otherwise, it looks like you've abandoned your blog. Which defeats the purpose of creating a lively ongoing relationship with your audience.
